Garbage
Automated Pick-Up
The Summer Village of Itaska uses an automated garbage pick-up system. Each lot with a cabin will be supplied with one 240 L garbage bin.
Pickups are weekly starting May 21 - October 8, 2012
Summer (May - Oct) Weekly on Mondays
Winter (Oct – May) Bi-Weekly on Mondays
ALL garbage must be inside the can. Any extra bags outside of the can will NOT be picked up. If required, an extra cart may be purchased directly from MCL (780) 352-2625.
EXTRA CARTS
- The extra charge is $28.31 per month (summer only)
- Limit one per resident
- They are asking for all five months in advance ( $141.55 )
- There are a number of residents that had purchased totes from Waste Management of Canada. These totes are compatible with our system so we will collect them. Residents can purchase a container sticker for the same price. Containers without the sticker will not be collected.
Grass Clippings
During the summer months, grass clippings will be picked up once per week on Mondays (Tuesdays on Statutory holidays).
- Limit of 4 bags / household
- No bag to exceed 50 lbs in weight
- MUST be in clear bags (grass will be composted, so there can be NO garbage, branches, twigs)
Pick-up days: Monday, May 21, 2011 - September 3, 2012 and October 8, 2012.
Bags will NOT be picked up on any date other than those listed above.
Big Bins
There will be one spring major clean-up. On the May long week-end, the Summer Village will supply a large bin, where residents may put their garbage.
NOT ALLOWED
c) Paint and Paint cans (acceptable if the lids are off and the paint inside is
dry/hard)
d) White goods: fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, freezers, liquids
* extra charges will apply for the above being put in the big bin and be charged directly to person, or if not known, than to Summer Village which will pass the fees on through taxes
NOTE: There will be no dumpster provided this fall.
Extra Garbage
Extra garbage that does not fit in your garbage can must be disposed of in an acceptable dump facility. Many residents have a blue bag for recycling which they take back with them to the city. If you have garbage that you need to take to a dump:

Council is also working on getting an agreement to take garbage to the Sunny Brook Transfer station in Leduc County, and should be in place early in 2012:

Road Bans
During spring break-up (~April - beginning of June) there is a 50% road ban in Itaska Beach, as well as surrounding area. The remainder of the year the road is at 75%.
Snow Removal
Snow removal is done by a contractor after major snowfalls as necessary. Please contact the office if the road needs to be plowed.
